Newport PhotoBoat was created to meet the needs of Sail Newport during the 2014 around the world Volvo Ocean Race. On a cold and dark night, Captain Doug offered his boat and time to accommodate the many professional photographers streaming into the event at Fort Adams.

 

That night 2 photographers came aboard to capture the arrival of the first 3 competitors. The race ended after 2000 miles in a tacking duel to the finish.  Dong feng, Abu Dhabi and Brunel sailed in under the dark of night and only the stars over head. They were greeted by 100's of boats waiting hours in the night for their arrival. The photographer from the Providence Journal was aboard Doug's boat and got the "money shot" that appeared in the newspaper the next morning.

Over the past 3 years Doug has been sought after to bring the best photographers to where the action is on Narragansett Bay. Doug is often given special access to "cross the line" where only a few boat operators are allowed to go.
